Sod installation
Sod installation is almost a necessity with southern turf grasses. Most warm season grasses are difficult to seed and take months to create a dense beautiful lawn.
Choosing the right sod for your installation
Choosing the correct sod for your installation is vital. Several questions need to be asked. What is your budget? How much sun will it get? Will you be mowing your lawn weekly? Does it stay wet? Zoysia and Bermuda lawns are the most popular options for sod installation in the Macon and Warner Robins area. Our favorite sod types are emerald zoysia and tiftuf bermuda. These are beautiful sod choices for your lawn. They are tough and disease resistant. Emerald has a beautiful green sheen when the sun hits it and Tiftuf bermuda can almost be mistaken for a dark green zoysia because if its natural green color. When considering your sod installation, budget is a major concern because Emerald zoysia cost almost
twice as much as Tiftuf Bermuda. So if you have full sun, Tiftuf Bermuda is a more affordable option. If you have shade, you will want to consider Emerald Zoysia. Emerald zoysia grass can survive with a minimum of 3-4 hours of direct sunlight while Bermuda typically needs at least 8 hours of sunlight. Bermuda is an aggressive growing grass, so before you install sod, you need to consider if you are up to mowing every week. Bermuda needs to maintained as low as possible without scalping your lawn. Another thing to consider is what time of year you will be installing sod. If you are doing your installing sod in the winter, Emerald zoysia is probably not a good option. It seems to do much better when it is installed in the growing season. However it is fine to install Bermuda sod at any time of year… even when completely dormant. Bermuda is also much more disease resistant than Emerald zoysia. It recovers very quickly from any disease or insect problems while Emerald zoysia recovers much slower and is more susceptible to disease than Bermuda.
